Conjured earth elementals have earthglide, which is. Conjured fire elementals can set enemies on fire. Conjured air elementals are much faster, and have a whirlwind attack. The unicorn's teleport is a decent red alert button, but in my experience there are typically more pcs in a given party than the teleport can handle. Conjure elemental and summon elemental summon creatures with similar DPR, but conjured elementals are tougher (roughly twice as much hp) and have stronger special abilities. The unicorn's healing capacity doesn't come close to mass heal, so upcasting conjure celestial is not necessarily a good use of a ninth level slot. CR 5 with a ninth level slot), though I personally prefer the couatl with a seventh level slot. The Unicorn is in reference to higher level casting (i.e. As long as one is not looking at conjure celestial narrowly, it's a perfectly valid seventh level spell, though one may want to use change shape sparingly to avoid overly frustrating the DM. It can turn into a warlock of the archfey and conjure another creature. One's couatl can transform into an albino dwarf spirit warrior to cast pass without trace when the party needs to sneak around. ![]() I figure a party with a down cleric needs all the help it can get.Change shape also affords innate spellcasting to a conjured couatl. If the role is successful, you get up to a highest level spell+1 CR critter. I changed the cleric's divine intervention so that it is automatically invoked in if the cleric is reduced to 0 hp's (but still can only be used once a week). It is still only a 6th level spell (no benefit for up casting). I usually use the highest spell level the cleric (bard, favored/divine soul sorcerer, and in my campaign warlock) can cast to determine the maximum CR of what they can get. The bard can also get the spell, so I guess they made it more open for them. The warlock never gets anything for free unless he/she wins a diplomacy check against the monsters charisma. I homebrewed it into the list in my campaign. I am not sure why they didn't include it in the Mystic Arcanum spell list. ![]() I suspect it was going to be on the warlock's spell list, both based on the text (which is as much, if not more, warlock than cleric) and it was a major feature for a couple of the 4e warlock types (binder and hexblade). Conjure Celestial is still valuable, it's cheaper. It seems swingy depending on ones DM I wish they'd given more guidance with it.Īlso I find it funny that the Cleric/Favoured Soul can summon fiends like demons, succubi, devils, yugoloths, and so on, but the Conjurer Wizard can't, plus can summon elementals safer (conjure elemental is dangerous). So how do you handle Planar Ally, what do you allow to be summoned?Īnd is it over powered compared to the conjure animals/fey/woodland creatures/minor elementals/Elementals/Celestials? Plus you can request a Planar Ally by name (this is the real value of the Arcana and Religion skills). ![]() You can not only ask your deity for the Planar Ally, but also other cosmic beings like Primordials, Demon Princes, Archdevils, Celestial Paragons, Solars, Empyreal Titans, Archelementals, what ever super powered Succubi are called, Utraloths, Slaadi Lords, Primus, The Dark Powers of Ravenloft, Far Realmsian Old Ones, Elder Evils, powerful Primal Spirits, and the Cosmic being can't say no, but they can send you something weak I guess. No constration needed, it can last just about forever if you have the gold income for it, no CR limit, it can summon any CR Celestial, Fiend, or Elemental. ![]()
